FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES NEW IPHONE APPLICATION
PARK CITY, Utah (November 15, 2009) – The Sundance Film Festival has just released an iPhone application that is now available for purchase from the Apple iTunes store for $4.99. All of the proceeds from the purchase will benefit the Sundance Institute. The application is a digital companion for anyone that is attending the festival, but can also be used as a resource for anyone that is not able to attend and would like to know what is going on during the 10 day event.
The 2010 festival is putting a focus on preserving the environment and this iPhone application is just one of the ways to help with the efforts to “go green.” Instead of having to carry around paper guides, the new application will give festival goers the ability to look up information about any of the films in the festival, right from their phone. People will be able to search for specific films or just search for a film that is playing at a certain time. There will be information about every film playing at the festival, as well as a short clip of some of the feature films. The application will also give directions to any of the theater locations throughout Park City. It will be able to identify the exact location of the specific phone through the phone’s GPS system and then it can guide the user to any desired location. This feature is not only helpful with locating films, but will help festival patrons locate restaurants, shops, and music venues throughout the city. Information about other events will also be available and kept current on the application. Many people that attend the festival spend their time going to panel discussions about the movies. This information will constantly be updated as well, specifically noting any change of venue or any surprise guests attending the panel.
The new iPhone application is not just a good resource for those attending the actual festival, but can benefit those that are not able to attend as well. This application will be helpful to them by giving them an idea of the festival experience, even if they can’t physically be in Park City. The application will give access to information about all of the movies and will provide news articles about the festival itself. An extensive collection of photographs from the festival will be available to view on the application and will be updated constantly. Festival goers will even be able to post their own personal pictures to the application for everyone to see. Users will also be able to connect to their Facebook or Twitter accounts directly from the application.
About the Sundance Film Festival and Sundance Institute
The Sundance Institute is a non-profit organization that was originally started by actor Robert Redford in 1981. The Institute’s main focus is on assisting independent filmmakers in creating new films and getting an audience to watch the films. Each year, the Institute hosts numerous programs that give filmmakers a chance to create and display their films. The Institute is also the driving force behind the annual Sundance Film Festival. The festival is a 10 day event held each year in Park City, Utah and showcases over one hundred independent films. The 2010 festival will be held from Jan. 21-31.
